BIENVENUE –WELCOME - CEUD MILLE FAILTE!
Welcome to Restaurant Montmartre, a little corner of France in the heart of Scotland.
So how does a Frenchman called Eric end up running a French restaurant in the Fair City of Perth?
Running restaurants is a family tradition for Eric. His grandfather was a successful restaurateur in Normandy. Business was unexpectedly interrupted in 1940 with the arrival of a large number of uninvited 'guests' from the German army --- which, funnily enough, is how Eric came to acquire his Scottish christian name!
In June 1944, the allies landed in Normandy among the liberating troops were men of the legendary 51st Highland Division who faced tough fighting. Eric's family gave the Scots the best welcome they could and were impressed by the young highlanders and specifically a young soldier called Eric!
Eric worked in the family restaurant before opening his own place in the wine heartland of Burgundy. His approach to French country cooking is influenced by both Normandy and Burgundy and he still owns a restaurant in the French Riviera resort of Menton.
Eric's twin passions ----- for Scotland and cooking come together in Restaurant Montmartre where Scotland's finest and freshed ingredients are prepared with French know-how.
And be sure to sample our desserts. Patisserie is the passion of Laurent --- Montmartre's patisserie chef who learned his trade in the Gascony region in the south of France where his family produce the smoothest of Armagnacs, as they have for generations.
So, please enjoy your visit to Montartre. Bon Appetit!
